The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)
The
Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a
mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly
displaced people. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with
the support of an international office in Rome. JRS projects are found in over
50 countries, providing assistance to refugees in refugee camps, to people
displaced within their own country, to asylum seekers in cities and those held
in detention. The main areas of work are in the fields of Education, Advocacy,
Emergency Assistance, Health and Nutrition, Income Generating Activities and
Social Services.
Working Environment
The
Assistant to the Communications Department reports to the Communications
Coordinator. [S]he works within and shares the tasks of the ten-person
International Office team in Rome. In particular, [s]he works closely with the
Communications Coordinator and the Publications Consultant.
Responsibilities
1) Support the Publications Consultant with
the functional aspects of the website - creating, modifying, uploading and
deleting web pages/files.
2) Basic administrative support to the
Communications Coordinator, in particular organising the translations, the
proof-reading and the distribution of all the JRS International Office
publications (Servir, Annual Report, Directory...).
3) Help in managing the online JRS Directory
database. Tasks to include helping JRS regional offices to update entries and
correction of incorrect data.
4) Managing the photo archive. Scanning the
photos at a high resolution for internal and external publications.
5) Helping in managing the information and
publication database. Tasks to include data entry and correction of out of date
or incorrect data.
6) IT support to the Communications
Coordinator. In particular data extracting from database, helping in managing
the JRS mailing lists and backing up process.
7) Responding to requests for assistance
from other JRS offices and other partners, e.g. for photos, redirecting
information requests.
8) Production, from time to time, of
different materials for the International and other JRS offices, such as
Christmas and business cards etc.
Qualifications and Qualities
1) The successful applicant will be
creative, dynamic and highly motivated.
2) He/she will be passionate about human
rights and refugee issues and professional about the execution of his/her job.
3) Good knowledge of principal computer
programmes and openness and ability to learn advanced use of specific software
applications. In particular, good knowledge of word and data processing and
basic knowledge of desktop and web publishing.
4) Ability to work well in an English
speaking environment.
5) Working knowledge of Italian.
6) Strong communication and collaborative
skills.
7) Ability to work to strict deadlines.
8) Working knowledge of other languages an
advantage.
9) appreciation of the values that underlie
the mission of JRS.
Conditions
This
is a half-time position. The contract will be for two years renewable, subject
to a three-month probation period. Salary and other allowances are granted on a
pro-rata basis, as is annual leave. Working hours to be agreed with the
successful candidate, but he/she will generally be required to work every day.
