This year’s
annual Treaty Event of the UN is focussing on the protection of civilians and
will be held in New York from 21 to 24 September 2004.
The
Secretary General Kofi Annan invited recently all governments to reconfirm at
this occasion their commitment to the rule of law in international relations,
and in particular treaties on the protection of civilians by signing and
ratifying or acceding to those treaties to which their country is not a party
yet. The UN Convention on the protection of the rights of all migrant workers
and members of their families is among the 24 highlighted treaties on the
protection of civilians.
