Position Title                 :      Project Specialist

Type of appointment       :      Special all-inclusive contract, duration six months, renewable

 

General functions:            Under the overall guidance of the Director, Regional Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of

Mission in Italy and the direct supervision of the Head of the Psychosocial and Cultural Integration (PSY) Unit and the Planning and Coordination Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for providing support to the PSY Unit, with a special emphasis on project development assistance and review in relation with the PSY Unit strategic objectives.

 

In particular, the successful candidate will:

 

  1. Assist in providing support and guidance to the PSY Unit in developing projects and programmes, defining strategies and identifying opportunities for new projects/activities. Strengthen connections between projects from various geographic areas and applications.
  2. Review and revise projects produced by the PSY Unit in collaboration with various partners. Ensure timely and coordinated responses, as required.
  3. Prepare guidelines and project development support tools required by the PSY Unit in close consultation with the Planning and Coordination Officer.
  4. Participate in presentations and promotion of IOM's work, including for project promotion purposes.
  5. Advise and participate in project development teams on special field assignment, as required.
  6. Draw lessons learned from programme development and implementation with other colleagues, as appropriate, and inject these into future project development as part of the incumbent's learning experience.
  7. Assist in the design and continuous update of the Unit Projects Portfolio.
  8. Prepare reports, briefings and presentations on progress/development in the unitÕs activities.
  9. Perform such other duties as may be required.

 

 

 

Desirable qualifications, education,

Experience and personal qualities

University degree in Political or Social Science, International Relations or relevant field or equivalent practical experience. Four years of experience in international migration and/or development matters.

Knowledge of programme development and related documentation approaches including IOM SPROUT, project document, and logical framework components. Direct experience in IOM programme work.

Familiarity with human rights law and humanitarian protection issues is an advantage.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Drive for results, flexibility and open working style. Strong strategic and creative thinking. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds and to effectively handle multiple tasks under time constraints.

 

                                          

Languages: Good knowledge of English and Italian.
