Position Title                       :        Project Assistant

Type of appointment           :        Special all-inclusive contract, duration nine months

 

General functions:  Under the overall supervision of the Director, Regional Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and the Migration and Health Project Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:

 

1. Collaborate in the planning, management, evaluation and coordination of activities related to HIV/AIDS Project.

 

2. Plan and organize the Survey Assessment of Migrants living in Italy to strengthen strategic information on HIV. Design and implement the socio-behavioural (KABP survey) research including WHO/UNAIDS indicators on HIV/AIDS.

 

3. Assist the Project Manager in the research implementation focused on evidence based health promotion for migrants, strengthening health promotion policy structures and collaboration leading to improve the involvement of individuals, families and communities. Design and coordinate the assessment of the HIV/AIDS prevention material.

 

4. Collaborate with national partners and support the development of comprehensive HIV prevention approaches for migrants and advice, designing and delivering strategies interventions to work with NGOs and CBOs.


5. Design guidelines and training materials required to educate and train the workforce in promotion for HIV/AIDS prevention on migrants.


4. Elaborate a final report including research, education and service delivery models.

5. Support the Project Manager in the development of final policies, guidelines and strategies focused on the management, implementation and monitoring of HIV/AIDS project activities targeting migrants.


7. Contribute to the planning of future IOM programmes on HIV including programme and project monitoring and evaluation and financial management.


8. Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

Desirable qualifications, education, experience and personal qualities

Postgraduate degree in public health, social sciences, or related disciplines.

Minimum 3/5 years' experience including 3 years in prevention and health promotion programmes, especially related to HIV/AIDS.

Demonstrated and consolidated research, monitoring, evaluation and teamwork skills. Experience working with HIV/AIDS and migrants preferred.

Demonstrated expertise in quantitative methods and study design and broad knowledge of the use of survey methodologies. Excellent skills on rapid assessment methodology, KABP survey and expertise on behavioural change models.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and methodology of public health and health promotion, knowledge of UNAIDS HIV/AIDS indicators and broad knowledge and understanding of the policies, guidelines and practices on HIV/AIDS harm reduction and anti-stigma interventions.

Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain high standards of personal conduct.
Computer literate in the use of general programmes including SPSS or similar.

Desirable: Extensive international experience in working with UN agencies and other non-governmental organizations in a developing country context.

Languages:                                Excellent knowledge of spoken and written Italian and English, knowledge of French  

                                                   and/or Russian would be an advantage.
