Siamo dei Rom rumeni, siamo circa 60 famiglie. Viviamo nella citta' di Pisa,

nelle baracche in condizioni non buone, senza acqua e senza luce.

Noi non vogliamo vivere nelle baracche. Siamo costretti a vivere nelle

baracche perche' non ci e' data la possibilita' di prendere una casa: il

Comune non ha interesse ad aiutarci a trovare una casa. Non possiamo mandare

a scuola i bimbi perche' non abbiamo le condizioni igienico-sanitarie.

Alcuni bimbi vanno a scuola, ma spesso le scuole rifiutano di iscrivere i

nostri figli.

Facciamo lavori che gli italiani non vogliono fare, in condizioni peggiori.

Alcuni di noi lavorano con contratto regolare, altri al nero, altri sono in

cerca. Alcune persone hanno fatto dei corsi di specializzazione, anche se

vivono in queste condizioni. E' difficile trovare lavoro perche' molti

datori di lavoro chiedono la residenza dell'anagrafe. Anche se viviamo a

Pisa da tanti anni, anche se lavoriamo, anche se i nostri figli vanno a

scuola, il Comune non ci da' la residenza dell'anagrafe perché viviamo nelle

baracche.

Noi siamo persone che vogliamo integrarci, siamo persone intelligenti, con

cultura, con tradizioni.

Il Sindaco di Pisa ha firmato una ordinanza per sgomberare i campi, senza

soluzione, in stagione di inverno. Noi non possiamo lasciare la citta' di

Pisa, abbiamo lavoro, paghiamo i contributi, abbiamo anche alcuni figli

malati. Ordinare uno sgombero in queste condizioni e' inumano.

Il Sindaco dice che non ha la possibilità di aiutarci. Sappiamo che l'Unione

Europea ha programmi e fondi per i cittadini Rom e che l'Italia non li usa,

e che e' stata multata per questo.

Chiediamo che il Sindaco non faccia sgomberi e che si trovi insieme una

soluzione per vivere normalmente come gli altri italiani. Ci sono i modi per

fare questo che non sono sgomberi (come l'autorecupero delle case

abbandonate).

We are Roma from Romania, approximately 60 families. We live in the city of

Pisa, in harsh conditions, in shacks without water or electricity. We do not

want to live in shacks. We are forced to live there because we have no

opportunity to move into real homes; the municipal authorities are not

interested in helping us find houses. We cannot send our children to school

because we lack the proper sanitary conditions. Some kids go to school, but

schools often refuse to enrol our children.

We do jobs that Italians do not want to do, in conditions worse than theirs.

Some of us have legal employment contracts, others work under the table,

others are looking for jobs. Some have taken professional specialization

courses, despite the circumstances in which they live. It is hard to find

work because many employers require that you have a legal address filed with

the municipal registrar. Even though we have lived in Pisa for many years,

even though we have jobs, even though our children go to school, the city

authorities refuse to register our legal addresses because we live in

shacks.

We are people who want to become integrated; we are intelligent people, with

culture, with traditions.

The Mayor of Pisa has signed an order for the camps to be cleared, with no

alternatives, in the middle of winter. We cannot leave Pisa; we have jobs,

we pay taxes, some of us even have sick children. Ordering an evacuation in

these circumstances is inhuman.

The mayor says he has no way to help us. We know that the European Union has

programmes and funding for Roma citizens and that Italy does not take

advantage of them, and has been fined for this.

We ask the mayor not to evacuate the camps and to work with us to find a

solution, so that we can live normal lives like other Italians. There are

ways to do this other than evacuations (such as recovering abandoned

houses).
